What is idENTICHIP?
idENTICHIP is a tiny microchip with a unique identity code. The microchip is implanted painlessly under the skin by a vet in the same way as a vaccination. Unlike collars and tags, identichip becomes a permanent means of identification. If you have more than one pet, each can be separately microchipped and identified.
How does idENTICHIP work?
When your pet is found, a scanner is used to detect the idENTICHIP and read the unique code in much the same way that barcodes are read at the supermarket checkouts. All your idENTICHIP details are recorded on a secure database, which is accessible 24 hours a day. The details of the scanned chip are checked against the database and the registered owner of the pet is contacted.
Who can scan the idENTICHIP for details?
Scanners are routinely used by rescue kennels and dog wardens all over the country. Their use is also standard procedures for the RSPCA and SSPCA homes, Cats Protection, by many welfare societies and of course at veterinary practices.
Are there any side effects?
idENTICHIP is completely safe for your pet. In dogs and cats it is permanently placed in loose skin at the back of the neck and can be implanted in pets of any age, breed or species, from Great Danes to budgerigars. Pet welfare and veterinary practices recommend idENTICHIP.
